Indecisiveness

Posted in General on 07/23/2005

Look! I’m writing something in my blog!

Ok, that’s out of my system. I always say that I’m going to post something, but I never seem to get around to it. I know all two of you visit this place have just been waiting on the edge of your seats for this… ;) Anyway, moving on, I’m suffering from a major case of indecisiveness this morning. For starters, I can’t decide whether I’m going to go to pick up some things in Sacramento or if I’m going to stay home and write fanfic..

The other source of indecision is the question of webhosting. I’ve been with the current host for over a year and have been very happy with them. However, as a whole, written-in-stars.net is growing at a pretty rapid pace, especially my Danny/Mary fansite. I upgraded my plan back in April, but projecting for the next year, I’ll run out of webspace again. Dreamhosting has their plans on sale right now–really awesome deals. I’d get 6 tims as much bandwidth and about 5x more space for at least 4 dollars a month less. I am paid up until next March with current webhost though, and I can’t find anything on their cancellation policy. Really, it’s ridiculous for me not to switch knowing that I’ll likely need to upgrade again before next March. I am a little antsy on moving the mysql databases, but I’m sure it’ll be fine. I’m not sure what will/would happen if I can’t cancel out the current hosting account. I suppose I could register a second domain for cheap with GoDaddy and turn that hosting plan into a fanlistings collective, keep written-in-stars.net as my personal domain, and move it and the danny/mary site to the new space….

And that leads me to a new question; if I were to register a second domain, what would I call it? A few weeks ago, I had thought of something that would be really cute, but I’ve forgotten it now. Oy.

  2. okay. hello. Finally your link from my site works.

now what i really want to get to is this; you are about to start on the 1st Harry Potter book? OMG YAY! Now we will have even more to talk about. I’m all HP giddy right now. okay, for the past few weeks. But can’t wait to read your thoughts. (doesn’t that sound just a little bit weird? lol)

i hope you figure out what’s best to do about your webhosting problems. Sorry to make this quick, but i am at work and well, people are starting to walk by my cubicle. =)

talk to you later. glad to see you blogging again. =) now it’s my turn. lol

  3. Dadgummit, I forgot to check for comments until just now… I always forget that.

I’m glad I’m back up and running too Liz!

Veronica–I figured out why the link to my site wasn’t working. I had read somewhere about 1 site direct linking php files from another. So, I decided to add php to the list of file types with hotlink protection. Bad idea. I was baffled when the link from tfl to one of my fanlistings would always give a 403 error. I didn’t even think about it at first, then I remembered. When I took it off, everything started working again.

On to the next subject, not only did I start the first HP book, I finished it and really liked it. Unfortunately, the guy I borrowed it from is in Europe right now, so I can’t get the second one from him. The library has it though, so I may go check it out.

I did end up switching webhost, and I’m so glad I did. There were some pain-in-the-rear moments, but it’s all working now. Also, the other place let me cancel my plan with them with no problems.

I need to write some sort of new entry, but I really don’t have anything that interesting to say right now…

  4. Well I’m glad to hear that everything is looking good, as far as your webhost stuff. That’s awesome that the other place let you cancel with no problems.

I’m extra happy that you enjoyed HP:SS. Now onto COS. WHoo hooo. Then POA, GOF, OOtP, and HBP. AHH! I’m going HP crazy. Hey you can write a little review of the first book.

Can’t wait for your next entry, no matter what it’s about. I mean, look at my blog, it’s full of random crap and currently, it looks like crap. tee hee. =)
