Don’t Change the Radio Station
Over the course of the past two months, I have started–but never finished–at least five blog entries. They’ve ranged from the trivial to reflective and philosophical–and I don’t feel like finishing a one of them.
Since I don’t feel like finishing the others, I thought I’d take this opportunity to comment on one of my current peeviest of peeves–the altercation of my local radio stations. I love the radio and listening to music–absolutely, totally, and completely love it. Unfortunaely, where I’m at, we don’t have a large selection of radio stations. It took some getting used to when I moved out here three years ago–my home town in Kentucky as well as Lexington, where I attended the University of Kentucky, both had tons. Anyhow, I still managed to survive and found some stations which were half-way decent.
I had three favorite stations up until recently: the 80’s station (I *heart* 80’s music–it reminds me of when I was a little kid); the oldies station (I love to dance to it); and Bob FM, which was a station that quite literally played everything from almost every genre that has come out in the past 40 years. Well, the 80’s station and Bob FM were owned by the same company, and back in the summer, the owner decided to sell one of it’s stations… Listeners could vote for one or the other (how was I supposed to pick, huh?). In the end, the 80’s station won out, was moved to the station that Bob had been on, and Bob went away. The station that had been the 80’s station is now a Christian Rock station (which although I am a devout Christian, I do have problems with Christian Rock…). Then, on top of all that, they changed the format of the 80’s station, so the play “the greatest of the 80’s, 90’s, and today”–like almost every other station out there.
Well, I still had my oldies station. It was perfectly normal, same-as-it’s-always been. That was, until I returned from Kentucky a week ago. They’ve changed it. They’re not playing new music, but they’re playing more stuff from the late 70’s/early 80’s (which I consider more to be classic rock) and less of the stuff from the 50’s and 60’s…
I just wish they’d left everything alone.

They changed some stations here too. We had Star 100.7 that played music from “80’s, 90’s, and today,” and of course had the Jeff and Jer Showgram (morning show, i love them). Then all of sudden they just changed to “Jack 100.7″ - which is kinda like what your “BOB” station used to play (variety of music from 60’s to today). Then Jeff and jer left Jack, and moved to My 94.1, but then once Jeff and Jer got there, they changed their name to STAR 94.1. At least they didn’t change the music that they play.
Radio stations are just weird. =)

I so hear you! They got rid of my favorite station and turned it into some awful nasty (c)rap station. They just don’t understand, I definately think they should ask me first before making any major changes!
